What a crazy week it was in college lacrosse. There were upsets all over the place. Clearly no team is safe this year. Taking a look at the standings, we’ve got Connor, Mo, and Hags tied for first place with a 5-3 record, and Dakota in sole possession of last place at 2-6. Pete’s been taking a victory lap all week after everyone faded him on Cuse, but we’ll see how he fairs this week after only being .500. It’s a good thing we are only 2 weeks in and have a long way to go. Let’s check out what games to keep an eye on for this weekend:

Duke vs Denver (+5.5, O/U 25.5) Friday February 17th 4pm

This is a massive game for both teams as they are both coming off of bad losses to teams that they should have beaten. Only one team can come away with a big bounce back win to get their season back on track. Duke leads this series with a 10-6 record dating back to 2003. Duke has won the last 5 meetings between the two, with a lot of goals being scored. In the last 5 games, the over is hitting at a 60% clip between these two squads. This game will be filled with energy and both teams will be looking to make a statement, so we’re looking at the over as a pretty safe bet here.

Georgetown vs Penn (+1.5, O/U 23.5) Saturday February 18th

The Hoyas are another team with a huge game this weekend coming off a loss to Johns Hopkins that no one expected. We have Penn playing in their first game this season; will they make the same mistakes Georgetown did against Hopkins? Penn lost last year in a tough close 10-8 game. However, both of these offenses are high powered so don’t be surprised if we see more goals this season. We’re anticipating a back and forth game with goals being traded throughout.

Maryland vs Syracuse (+4.5, O/U 24.5) Saturday February 18th

Syracuse is on fire right now, making their goal scoring look effortless, while Maryland is having a problem with that right now. The Terps lost to Loyola in a surprising game to everyone, and now they need a huge game to bounce back. They will be without their stud goalie Logan McNaney for the rest of the season because of an ACL injury. The question is: how will ‘Cuse deal with a top defense tier defense in Maryland. They struggled against Vermont who has a good defense, and now they’re facing a top 2 defender in the nation. The Joey Spallina vs Brett Makar matchup will be one to watch for sure.
