We hate to say it, but we are officially getting closer to the end of the season. Many teams have only two games left if they aren’t playing mid-week games. Teams playoff hopes are starting to die off, and some are realizing that they can and will make it. Our athletes are in the mix of all of this, looking to help their teams extend their year into the post-season.
Brendan Curry took his first trip ever to play Albany Thursday night, but the trip would not work out in the Orange’s favor. The Great Danes won the game 14-12; Brendan scored twice and dished out an assist in the loss. They had a quick turn-around, playing Cornell Monday night. Although this was another close matchup, the Orange lost the game 16-15. Curry recorded 4 goals and 1 assist as he led the team with his 5 point showing. Sam Swart and the Women’s team took on the number 1 team in the nation at UNC for a big ACC matchup. Syracuse didn’t back down despite dealing with some injuries, and fought hard in a close 14-12 loss to the #1 ranked Tar Heels. Sam finished the day with a goal in the match.
Kasey Choma and Kelsey Huff both had two games this week. Both girls would split their week going 1-1. Kasey scored a hat trick in both of her games. Her first game was Tuesday against Detroit Mercy, where the Irish won 27-2. Saturday would be a bit more difficult as they played Belle Smith and the Boston College Eagles. Notre Dame kept it a close game for most of the match, but wound up losing 16-10. Kasey scored another hat trick against the Eagles, and Belle would tally a goal and an assist in the BC win. Kelsey had a quick turnaround playing on Friday, then on Sunday again. USC played Cal Friday, and the Trojans secured a 20-11 victory. Kelsey contributed a goal in the win. Sunday they played Stanford, and USC lost 23-17. Kelsey was held pointless in this tough matchup.
Chris Gray and Matt Moore faced each other again, but Matt was sidelined due to an injury so he did not play. UVA was still able to roll, putting up 11 in an 11-4 victory over the Tar Heels. The UNC offense wasn’t able to get much going, but Chris was involved in all four of the Tar Heel goals, putting up 3 goals and an assist in the loss.
Connor and Joey played Ohio State in Columbus for another B1G Ten matchup. The Buckeyes would go on to win a close battle 12-10. Joey was held scoreless, but made some great plays that we don’t see in the stat sheet. Connor scored once and dished out an assist.
Joe Robertson and Duke were looking to get back on track this weekend with a shaky Notre Dame coming to town. But the exact opposite happened. The Irish were able to get back on track, and Duke is continuing to look shaky. Notre Dame would win by one 16-15, and Joe got an assist in the game. Katie DeSimone and the Lady Blue Devils played Virginia Tech Thursday in a close 15-14 victory for Duke. Katie continues to light every team up, as she scored 5 goals to help lead Duke to victory.
Aurora had a great week as well, taking down Penn State 13-6 behind Aurora’s 6 point performance on 5 goals and one assist.
For the week, our athletes went 6-8 with 31 points on 25 goals and 6 assists. On the season, everyone has been crushing it. Our season total is 99-48, with 525 points on 347 goals and 178 assists. Find us athletes who can do it better than ours… we’ll wait.
