What a week to be an UNLTD athlete! Almost everyone had a win this week; we saw multiple head-to-head matchups, and tons of scoring. We’re heading into the last weekend of college lacrosse for a lot of players, but we’re hoping we see our UNLTD athletes representing in the postseason.
Brendan Curry and the Syracuse Orange had a busy week, facing off against Cornell Monday night, in what was an instant classic in the Carrier Dome. Curry went off with 4 goals and an assist, but the Big Red just wouldn’t quit fighting. Cornell was able to get the game to overtime, and took down Curry and the Orange 16-15 in a close fought battle. On Saturday, Syracuse took a trip down to Chapel Hill for an UNLTD matchup between Curry and Chris Gray, and we were gifted with another incredible game of lacrosse. Brendan finished the game with a 5 point performance on 3 goals and 2 assists, and Chris Gray finished the day with 5 goals and 1 assist. Again, it was a back and forth contest the entire game but Chris Gray had the ball in the last seconds of the game. Chris worked a two-man game to perfection and scored the game winner with 15 seconds left to win the game 14-13.
Joe Robertson hosted Matt Moore on Thursday, in a highly anticipated matchup between what many people think are the top two teams in the ACC. Duke was very dominant throughout the entirety of this game. Joe and Matt both finished the game with two goals for the day as Duke came out with the victory 17-8. On Saturday, Matt Moore and UVA had their senior day against Quinnipiac and the Cavs went on to win 21-9. Matt sat out this game, as he’s been dealing with an injury for a couple games and was able to recover from thehard fought season so far.
Katie DeSimone had a huge head-to-head matchup with Belle Smith on Saturday, as #2 Boston College travelled down to Durham to play #7 Duke. Belle Smith had an incredible day scoring a hat trick and 6 assists, and Katie was able to score a goal. It was a game that came down the last seconds, and Duke was able to win the game 16-15 in the big upset for the Blue Devils.
Connor DeSimone and Joey Epstein got their Blue Jay squad back in the winning column this weekend as they took on Penn State. It was a close game, but Connor’s 6 assist on the day and Joey’s two goals were able to help the Jays get past the Nittany Lions on Saturday as they won 13-10.
Kasey Choma and Notre Dame played Pitt, who is in their first season as a program and doing well so far, sitting at 7-9. But Kasey was able to take care of the Panthers, scoring 5 goals and 1 assist in the 17-9 victory for the Fighting Irish. The USC Trojans had a solid week, going 2-0 against Oregon and Colorado. Kelsey did not play this week, but the Trojans were able to win 15-8, and 16-9. We hope to see her back out on the field soon!
Sam Swart and Aurora each had two games this week as well. Both girls went 2-0; Sam played Cornell on Tuesday, and was able to hand out a beat down, winning 20-9 with 2 goals on the day. She went played Louisville Saturday afternoon, and won 23-13 while counting a goal and an assist. Aurora had a monster weekend scoring 14 points in two games, 7 in each. The Lady Terps played Princeton Wednesday, and went on to win 19-9 behind Aurora’s 5 goal, 2 assist performance. Ohio State was a bit of a closer game, but they still pulled out a 14-8 win. Aurora scored 4 goals and 3 assists for the day.
In total, we saw our athletes go 14-4, scoring 41 goals and 24 assists for a 65 point week across the board. Brendan and Aurora had the best weeks stat wise. Brendan had 10 points on 7 goals and 3 assists. Aurora scored 9 goals and 5 assists throughout the week. Some of our athletes are playing in their last games this week, which is sad to see, but it has been awesome to watch them crush it all year.
