Rivalry week consistently delivers great competition, close games, and unexpected upsets. Coming at the end of the season, rivalry week can really make or break a team’s tournament chances. Regardless of records coming into these games, everyone is hyped up and ready to stick it to their opponents by planting as many ginos as possible and running up the score. It was a tumultuous week for some of our athletes, and a prosperous one for others. Let’s see how they fared in these heated battles…

Chris Gray got our week started with a Thursday night ACC battle against Notre Dame. It was a defensive game without a doubt, and the Tar Heels fell to the Irish 12-5 and Chris was held to just a goal and two assists for the day. UNC are going to have a tough path to a championship, and they’ll need to step up their game in a huge way if they want to make a run.

Kasey had an unbelievable week to close out the season, as the Irish went 2-0 against Louisville and Marquette. Kasey managed to score 10 points collectively on the week. Kasey scored 4 times and had an assist against Marquette, and a solid 5 goal game vs Louisville.

Brendan Curry hosted Matt Moore in the Carrier Dome looking for revenge of their game earlier in the season where the Cavs crushed the Orange 20-11 in February.  The Orange played much better and kept it close to UVA, but Matt Moore’s 7 point performance secured the 21-15 win over Syracuse. Brendan Curry put on a show as well, scoring twice and assisting 4 times out on the field. With the UVA road win, the Cavaliers clinched the ACC title and are the 2022 ACC Champions with a 5-1 conference record.

Sam Swart had a busy and important week as she took on NYS rival Albany, as well as Boston College this week to finish out their seasons. They split the week going 1-1, with a solid win against Albany where Sam scored a hat trick to help get the victory. The Belle Smith vs. Sam Swart matchup was a great game: it yielded a 15-13 outcome in favor of the Eagles. Sam scored once and assisted once in the game, and Belle had a huge performance scoring 5 goals in the big time win.

Connor DeSimone and Joey Epstein played the #1 Maryland Terrapins Saturday night at Homewood Field as part of the best rivalry in the sport of lacrosse. The Terps were fired up for this game and they were flying all over the field from start to finish, never letting off the gas. The Terps won the game 22-7 and reclaimed the rivalry trophy. Connor and Joey combined for three points on 2 goals and an assist as they gave it their all in the tough loss.

Aurora Cordingley and the lady Terps looked to extend their winning streak to 6 games, which they did as they beat Northwestern 15-9 on Saturday. The Wildcats had a solid game plan on Aurora, as she was only able to dish out two assists on the day.

Katie DeSimone and the Blue Devils took on the best team in the country in UNC for their final game, and the Tar Heels were ready for Duke. Katie was held in check to just a goal and an assist as UNC went on to win 18-4.

Kelsey was not in the lineup this week against Arizona State, but her squad was able to pull out a close 15-13 win this week.

Joe Robertson and the Duke Men’s team got a break from their busy schedule this week and will be looking to finish strong against UNC Sunday.

This past week was the last week for a couple of our athletes, and this week is the official last week of the college lacrosse regular season. Which means it’s the last time we’ll be seeing some of our athletes play in their school’s uniform. Make sure that you don’t miss out on this incredible slate of games!
