What an electric weekend of lacrosse this past weekend. We got to see all 12 of our athletes playing, some in their season debut and others playing in their second week.  Our athletes had an action packed weekend, going 13-3 altogether.  7 of our 12 athletes had a double header weekend, playing both on Friday and Sunday.

Katie DeSimone and the Duke Blue Devils women’s lacrosse team played Gardner- Webb Friday, and Elon on Sunday. Katie and Duke crushed it this weekend putting up a combined score of 47-8. After this weekend, Katie is currently leading her team in points with 13 goals and 1 assist. Joe Robertson had two games for a second weekend in a row, taking on Manhattan and Jacksonville. Duke took down Manhattan 17-7 after a close contest to start. Joe had a balanced game putting up 2 goals and 2 assists. Jacksonville stunned the world with a big win over Duke 14-12. Joe Robertson tried to help as much as he could contributing 2 goals and 1 assist, but the Dolphins were able to hang on to their lead.

Connor and Joey had a big weekend for the Blue Jays, coming out 1-1 after two hard fought games for the two of them. Hopkins took on Towson Friday, and Georgetown on Sunday in a big top ranked matchup to start the season. Joey took over against Towson, putting up 6 goals and 1 assist, and Connor totaled 3 points on a 1 goal and 2 assists. The Hoyas got the win over Hopkins but we still saw a good performance from our guys. Connor had a 4 point outing (1,3) while Joey put up 2 goals in a hard fought battle.

The new era of Syracuse lacrosse is off to a fantastic start. Brendan Curry and the Gary Gait led men’s squad put a beating on Holy Cross winning 28-5. Brendan had a great game recording 6 points on 4 goals and 2 assists in his season debut. Sam Swart had a double header weekend to get their new head coach , and recognized as one of the best to play the game in Kayla Treanor. On Friday they took on Stanford for their first game of the season and won 12-9, and beating Binghamton Sunday 23-6. Sam Swart had her playmaking ability on display recording 2 assists and 1 goal this weekend.

Kasey Choma  and Notre Dame played in their first two games this season as well, beating Central Michigan on Friday in a deciding 24-5, and losing a hard fought contest against Michigan 11-7. Kasey put up 3 goals across the two games with two in the loss to Michigan.

Chris Gray and the Tar Heels took on Richmond and Colgate this weekend,  both games were very exciting as UNC came out of Sunday 2-0. Chris Gray showed us exactly why he is expected by the media for the Tewaaraton award.  Chris had a great weekend putting up 12 points this weekend on 7 goals and 5 assists.

Matt Moore and UVA found themselves in a real close game with High Point this weekend. High Point is no stranger to the big stage, taking down Virginia a couple of years ago. The Cavaliers would end up winning the game 11-10, and Matt Moore had a solid hat trick to help lead the team to victory.

The defending women champions debuted this weekend with a win over Northwestern 18-9, and we saw Belle Smith record a hat trick to kick off the season in the right direction. Kelsey Huff and the USC Trojans took on San Diego State, and won by 11 with a final score of 18-7. Kelsey had a great day and recorded a hat trick as well to lead the Trojans to victory. Aurora had a massive day for the Terps in her first game ever as a Terp taking downt. Joseph’s 20-6 led by Aurora’s 5 goal game.

Playing two games in three days is certainly a tough task, but pays off in the end when you make it to Memorial Day and have that exact scenario playing twice in one weekend for the semi-final, then the championship game. That is why our athletes are getting ready for some tough competition on short notice.

Let’s take a look at points for the leagues. Joe is currently fourth in the NCAA with 14 (7,8), Chris Gray is 11th with 12 points (7,5) , Connor is right there with 11 (5,6), Matt Moore has 7 points (4,3).  Joey Epstein is leading our athletes in goals with 8, and has 1 assist for 9 points., and Brendan Curry has 6 points on 4 goals and 2 assists after their first win. On the women’s side, we have Katie DeSimone 3rd in the nation with 14 points (13,1), Belle Smith with 3 points on her hat trick of goals, Kasey Choma has 3 goals as well, Aurora with 5 points on her 5 goal weekend, Sam Swart has 3 points with 1 goal, and 2 assists, and Kelsey Huff has 3 points from her hat trick weekend. That brings us to a total of 91 points (63,28)  through the first two weeks of the season!
