Week 3 marked the first weekend we were able to see every team suit up.  There was not only some great lacrosse, but also some great wins.  Brendan Curry and the Syracuse Orange had a heavyweight matchup against Maryland on Sunday in the Dome. Joe Robertson and the Blue Devils took on the Denver Pioneers Saturday morning in another highly anticipated matchup. Sam Swart took down the Stony Brook Seawolves in a close one goal contest. We got to watch our athletes play a lot this weekend, and they sure did show the world why they are the best.

Friday 2/18

Aurora Cordingley took over our Instagram this past Friday, while also taking over Charlottesville, as the Lady Terps beat Virginia 17-13. Aurora’s 6 point outing, on 4 goals and 2 assists, paved the way to this dominant victory. Katie DeSimone and Kelsey Huff played this Friday as well. Katie played William & Mary, and played a lead role in Duke’s 23-5 victory with a 5-point performance. Kelsey was in a much closer game than Katie, beating Jacksonville 13-12 with a goal to help lead the Trojans to a victory.

Saturday 2/19

Duke and Denver have had a history of close games, and with their average margin of victory being 6 goals, we knew this would be a good game. Joe Robertson was able to be the director of this offense and set the tempo this weekend, putting up two goals and an assist to lead the high powered Duke offense past Denver. This brings Joe’s point total for the season to 18 points on an even 9 goals and 9 assists.

Connor and Joey also found themselves in an epic battle between Johns Hopkins and Loyola. The Blue Jays are still working to put it all together, but the puzzle is starting to look more complete; which can be seen with this W. Joey Epstein led the way for Hopkins with a 5 point outing, scoring 2 goals while accounting for 3 assists. Connor was making plays all over, but was only able to get an assist for the day (but hey, sometimes the best plays don’t show up on the stat sheet). This was a big win, but we’re hoping to see the Jays clean it up as they racked up nearly 20 turnovers throughout this game.

Matt Moore was injured this week and did not suit up for the defending champions as they took on Towson. Towson took an early lead on the Cavaliers, but it didn’t last long as UVA would end up winning 18-9 in a runaway blowout.

Boston College and Belle Smith took on Boston University, and really brought it to BU, winning 22-6, with a Belle Smith hat trick and assist for 4 points on the day. Boston College also beat UMass earlier this week on Wednesday, winning 22-5 while Belle had 2 assists.

To end Saturday, we have a couple of upsets, and unfortunately some of our athletes were on the wrong side of these. Chris Gray took on Ohio State in an ACC vs Big 10 battle, and Big Ten took the victory in a dominant fashion, with Ohio State winning 20-8. Chris Gray still did his thing as he accounted for 7 of the 8 points, with 3 goals and 4 assists on the day.  But Ohio State had the veteran experience and size to keep rolling all game, and they never seemed to take their foot off the pedal.

Sunday 2/20

Sunday, we got to see Katie DeSimone and the Blue Devils play High Point. Duke won as anticipated, and Katie recorded a solid 7 points on 3 goals and 4 assists in a 22-13 Duke win. Kelsey and USC took on Mercer in a 15-7 W, where Kelsey had a solid 4 goal day. Sam Swart and Syracuse took on Stony Brook in a big early season matchup. The Orange would take down Stony Brook in a close one goal game with a final score of 12-11. Sam Swart was held to no points, but still helped in big ways to bring ‘Cuse to victory. Kasey Choma partook in a great game with Vanderbilt, but Notre Dame just couldn’t hang on for the win. The Irish would lose 14-12 with Kasey contributing a goal, but Vanderbilt was able to hold off Notre Dame for the win.

Brendan Curry took on Maryland in the Carrier Dome on a special day for Syracuse’s program. Maryland was not intimidated by the moment, and they took down the Orange 14-10 in a back and forth contest. Brendan was only able to get an assist, but he was doing everything in his power to help the Orange throughout this battle.

A couple quick shout-outs for our athletes! They currently hold a combined W-L record of 29 wins and 7 losses heading into this next week. Chris Gray is 7th right now in points with 10 goals and 9 assists, and Joe Robertson is currently 10th in points with his 9 goals and 9 assists. Joey and Connor are leading the Blue Jay squad combining for 26 points with Joey having 14 and Connor 12. Also, huge recognition should go out to Katie DeSimone as she continues to kill it this season, with 26 points in just her first 4 games.
