USA and Canada Lacrosse recently announced their rosters for the first Dedicated Sixes Event: the completely new style of Lacrosse to be played in the Olympic Games, with an entire new set of rules. The event will be held October 23rd and 24th at the USA Lacrosse HQ in Sparks, Maryland, where they’ll be competing on the Tierney Field. USA, Canada, and the Iroquois Nationals will all be competing against each other to see who sits on top in the sport in both men’s and women’s lacrosse. We are excited to announce that all 5 of UNLTD’s female athletes have made their respective rosters. Kasey Choma, Belle Smith, Sammy Swart, and Kelsey Huff will all be members of the USA women’s team in a couple weeks, while Aurora Cordingley has been rostered on Team Canada. We are looking forward to watching them compete against the best in the world, on a new platform that is hinting to revolutionize the game of lacrosse.

See below for the new rules made specifically for the Sixes event, or visit https://laxallstars.com/world-lacrosse-sixes-the-game-youve-always-loved-just-found-a-new-gear/ for more information.

  1. :30 second shot clock
  2. Games are played in 4, 8-minute quarters
  3. Goalies initiate play after goals are scored; draws / faceoffs occur only at the start of each quarter
  4. Field size is 70×36 meters
  5. Flow of the game emphasizes tempo, with fewer stoppages in play
  6. Everyone plays both sides of the field (defense/offensive); substitutions are made on the fly
  7. Rosters are comprised of 12 players.
  8. In the women’s game, defensive players cannot be penalized for entering the shooting lane of an offensive player; offensive players will be penalized for taking a shot without regard for other players.

The new rules are looking to create more dynamic players, as every player on the field will have to play both ends. World Lacrosse is also looking to push the pace of play, decreasing the size of the field and adding a 30 second shot clock, forcing more offense in the hopes of increased action and highlight-worthy plays. There are exciting things to look forward to in the world of lacrosse, and we are wishing everyone (especially our UNLTD athletes) the best of luck in the upcoming event!
