Top Shelf Spreads Week 7

Another weekend in the books, and once again, college lacrosse delivered. Ohio State took down Notre Dame, Penn State toppled Cornell, and Syracuse defended the Dome against Hopkins. Unfortunately, our hot streak came to a halt—we went 1-3 on the weekend. Tough break, but at least we avoided the dreaded goose egg. That brings our season record to 16-8—still solid, but we’ve got some work to do.

This weekend’s slate might not be the most exciting, but there are still some key matchups worth keeping an eye on. Let’s dive in.

#18 Virginia (+3) vs. #1 Maryland | O/U 21 | Saturday, 4 PM

Maryland has been nothing short of dominant this season. The Terps are undefeated, battle-tested, and have made it clear they’re the team to beat in college lacrosse. Their defense has been rock solid, allowing double-digit goals just once—and that was against the defending champs. Simply put, they don’t give opponents much room to breathe.

Virginia, on the other hand, has had a rough start to the season. Their recent win over Towson might help them get back on track, but they'll need more than momentum to take down the Terps. McCabe Millon was expected to be the engine of this offense, but Truitt Sunderland has been the one stepping up. If the Cavaliers want a shot in this one, they can’t afford a slow start—especially against a Maryland defense that punishes teams for falling behind.

This rivalry runs deep, dating all the way back to 1926, with Maryland holding a 52-45 edge in the all-time series. Last season, they split their matchups in tight contests, but historically, unless it’s May and part of the NCAA tournament, this game tends to have a bit of a cushion for the winner. Right now, Maryland is locked in and shows no signs of slowing down.

Pick: Maryland -3, Over 21
