Which Teams Should Make the Jump to the NCAA?

It is finally April and Lacrosse is in the air. The northeast high school seasons are underway and we are starting to see an amp in conference play in the NCAA. Today, let’s take a look at an athletic association that doesn’t get as much hype as it deserves…..the MCLA!

When someone says the SEC, three words come to mind: football, baseball, and basketball. Is there a world where lacrosse can become a staple in the SEC? After all, who wouldn’t want to spend the best 4 years of their life at some of these schools? Let’s take a look at some top rated MCLA schools that compete in the SEC for the aforementioned sports!

University of Florida

Chomp chomp, welcome to the swamp! One of the most historical places to play college football games. High riding to the Final 4 in the men’s March Madness tournament, UF is an athletic holy grail! Their women’s team competes at the NCAA Division 1 level and has shown that they are a perennial power house falling just short in 2024 final four. In 2025, the gators are off to a hot start sitting at 9-2. With 2 remaining games, the Gators will look to make a deep run in this years MCLA championship tournament. With success in previous years and the athletic reputation UF holds, who wouldn’t want to see the Gators take the leap to the NCAA? Come rep the Gators with this crew for the rest of the spring, hurry these are going fast!

University of Texas

‘Hook Em stays hot! One of the most prolific defensemen to ever play the game, Kyle Hartzell, has taken this program to new heights. If a professional all star coaching this team doesn’t speak volumes about the competitive nature of this program, then I don’t know what will! Last year, the Longhorns made an improbable run in the tournament falling just short in the second round. After a first round exit in 2023, Texas held their head high on their progress and is looking to make an even further run this spring. Sitting at a respectful 6-2, the Longhorns are destined for May. I think everyone would agree, seeing the burnt orange embark in the NCAA would be one of the biggest story lines the sport could see. Just to talk about the high level they play at, last year star midfielder, Sterling Hupp, was granted a tryout and made the roster for the Boston Cannons! The first MCLA player to make it pro!

Since we talked about one of the most dominant sports conferences that doesn’t have men’s lacrosse, lets take a look at one that does. The ACC! Hoisting 4 of the last 5 D1 National Titles, the ACC draws the best of the best, year after year. The first team that comes to mind…..?

Boston College

The man in the red bandana, one of the most inspiring stories the sport has ever seen. Welles Crowther, a lacrosse player from BC, rushed into the WTC sacrificing his life to save countless other during the 9/11 attacks. The school pays great tribute to him every year through different events, like football games. BC is regarded as one of the top academic institutions in the nation. Located right outside the heart of Boston, BC has so much to offer. Their hockey program remains top tier year after year. Their women’s lacrosse program is one of, if not the, best program in the country this year. Hot off a national title in 2024, the lady eagle are soarin’ high on Chestnut Hill! The MCLA Eagles are highly respected in the men’s game. Honing some of the freshest gear and playing a nationally competitive schedule, BC is a powerhouse in the MCLA. With one of the top business programs in the world, BC has such a draw to future student athletes. Let’s not forget to mention they have a dome of their own. I mean seriously, who wouldn’t want to call this place home?

Clemson

Sunshine in South Carolina. Warm weather, opportunity, and endless activities in Death Valley. The Tigers have been a prominent force in Division 1 athletics for decades now. Let’s not forget to mention one of the newest women’s program in division one. Making an immediate impact in the ACC, the lady Tigers are currently endorsing a winning season at 9-4. With state of the art athletic facilities, the MCLA men’s program could make the same leap and have a huge impact on the men’s landscape. The men’s program currently sits atop their conference at 8-3 looking to make a splash this May. Drawing inspiration from their championship contending football program, the Tigers are some of the best suited players in the MCLA. With Lacrosse on the rise in southern states, a division 1 men’s program; in arguably the best conference would be sure a huge impact on the growth of the game!
