The first weekend of games is over and it sure did deliver. Duke had a double header, and we got to see the heavyweight programs kick their seasons off as well.  We got to see Logan Wisnauskas in the Maryland #1 for the first time, Johns Hopkins looking to show everyone they are back, and Virginia showing the world that they are still the champs.

We’ll start with Duke, since they are the ones who started this weekend off for everyone. Duke’s offense looked like they are already in mid-season form. Brennan O’Neill was the hot topic for the weekend, scoring 9 goals across their 2 games; 6 against Robert Morris, and 3 on Sunday against Vermont. UNLTD athlete Joe Robertson had a great weekend as well putting up 8 points; 1 goal, 3 assists against Robert Morris and 2 goals, 2 assists against Vermont. Andrew Macadorey, the #1 freshman had a solid showing as well, getting a SportsCenter top 10 play with a great assist to Dyson Williams, who had a slick BTB goal. This Duke team was slinging the ball around all weekend and their chemistry is looking top notch.

Maryland showed out as well and even exceeded expectations, having an exceptionally high scoring game and beating High Point 21-13. Logan Wisnauskas showed us why he is wearing the #1 for the Terps getting 8 points on 5 goals and 3 assists. Keegan Khan also had a great first game with his new team, putting up 4 goals and 2 assists. High Point’s Asher Nolting showed us that he is a dynamic force and not just a scoring machine by racking up 6 assists.

Johns Hopkins had a pretty good showing, although the final score was closer than they probably would have liked. At the end of the day, a win is a win. UNLTD athlete Connor DeSimone helped lead the Blue Jays to victory with 3 goals, and 1 assist. Jack Keogh had a great showing putting up 2 goals and 5 assists.  This game showcased how lacrosse is a game of runs. Jacksonville did a good job of stopping the Blue Jay momentum from getting too big from start to finish by accomplishing strong possessions themselves. Hopkins has a big weekend coming up with Towson on Friday, and Georgetown on Sunday, and they are going to need to play much better in order to prove what they wanted coming into this season.

The Virginia Cavaliers came out and let everyone know that the championship road goes through Charlottesville. Air Force had a strong start going up 3-0 to take over the first quarter. Freshman Griffin Schutz got the Cavs on the board with his first collegiate goal off a nice backside crease cut. UVA would get their offense moving quickly after and didn’t look back, tying it up 3-3 and finishing the game 21-11. UNLTD athlete Matt Moore had a solid showing, putting up 1 goal with a textbook inside roll for a beautiful finish, while he also contributed 3 assists. Connor Shellenberger exceeded expectations for himself putting up a goal and 5 assists.
