The stock on the UNLTD athletes is just continuing to rise. We had a couple head to head matchups, and a bunch of really exciting games to watch all weekend. Here’s the deets on what went down…

On Wednesday, we saw Brendan Curry go up against Army in what is always a great rivalry game. It was a back and forth battle throughout the game, but Army was able to gain a lead on the Orange late in the fourth and held on for the win. Brendan Curry shined despite the loss, putting up 4 goals in the contest.

Katie DeSimone, Aurora Cordingley, and Sam Swart all played mid-week games. Katie played East Carolina, where the Blue Devils would go on to win 19-9. Katie scored 2 goals and 1 assist to help the team secure the victory. Aurora and the Terps took on Delaware, and cruised to a 15-2 victory anchored by Aurora’s 6 point performance on 5 goals and 1 assist. Sam Swart played a great game against Northwestern putting up 2 goals and an assist, but Northwestern would be pull out the win in an overtime thriller 16-15.

That brings us into the weekend. On Saturday, Chris Gray and the Tar Heels took on the Denver Pioneers; and man did this game live up to the hype. UNC seemed to be in control the entire game, but Denver stayed the course and made it a back and forth competition. Chris Gray lead the way as he usually does, scoring 6 goals and 2 assists on the day, but collectively as a unit UNC went on and added another one to the W column. Joe Robertson made his return to the field after being sidelined with an injury against High Point, and he delivered, putting up a hat trick in a 14-8 win over the Richmond Spiders. We also got to watch Matt Moore go up against Connor DeSimone and Joey Epstein in a UNLTD head to head matchup. UVA grabbed an early lead and didn’t look back. Matt Moore finished with a 4 point performance on 1 goal and 3 assists to help lead the Cavs to victory in a 19-9 final score. Hopkins almost feels stuck in a rut, and they really need to get the ball rolling if they want to make a push into the post-season.

Aurora had another game against William & Mary where Aurora’s 8 point performance on 3 goals and 5 assists would lead Maryland to a dominant 19-7 victory. Belle Smith and the defending champs took on Louisville and a high scoring bout.  Belle had a huge game putting up 8 points on 5 goals and 3 assists to help in the 19-10 Eagles victory to end Saturday. Huge shout out to these 2 ladies for their defining performances.

On Sunday, we got to watch Sam Swart and Katie DeSimone go head to head in another UNLTD matchup. This was a close game all the way to the end, but Sam Swart and the Orange were able to hang on with an 18-16 victory over Duke. Sam collected 2 goals and 2 assists, and Katie would find a goal and 5 assists for Duke. Kasey Choma also played Sunday, taking on the Virginia. This was a big game for the Irish to get back on track for the season after dropping 4 games already. Taking down Virginia while Kasey accounted for 2 goals was a great way to set back on course. Brendan Curry found himself in a shootout on Sunday as the Orange took on a high powered offense in Hobart. This game was in Syracuse’s hands the whole time, but Hobart would not back down and were able to keep it within reach. ‘Cuse was able to get a 2 goal lead late in the game and held on for the W. This was a big game for the Orange after losing to Army earlier this week, and Brendan’s 6 point day was a huge contribution in to this victory. Let’s see if they can keep it rolling!

On the week, our athletes have a combined record of 9-5 with 37 goals and 21 assists, for a total of 58 points. Our ladies outperformed the guys, going 5-2 on 17 goals, and 15 assists for 32 total points. Our guys went 4-3 and combined for 20 goals and 6 assists for 26 points.
