Lacrosse 101: Understanding Each Position and What Gear You Need

Finally, we have reached conference play in the NCAA and High School lacrosse is in full swing across the country! With the wear and tear of the sport, we have seen a lot of people popping in the stores to get replacement gear as the season has unraveled. General questions are “my son plays attack, which is the best for him”? Today, we will take a look at what styles of equipment you will need to perform at each position!

Heads

Each position requires certain skills and assets in order to perform at the highest level. That is nearly impossible without the right head on your stick! For our attackmen, we usually recommend the Evo QX-O. The Warrior Evo family has been a nay stay in the lacrosse world, with the next always being better than the last. The narrow face shape and mid pinch allows for the ultimate pocket customization while not sacrificing ball control. For our midfielders out there, you’ll want to grab a Maverik Tactik 3. The face shape on this head allows for pure consistency between the lines. Whether you are a pure goal scorer or a lock down d-mid, this head has it all. The rigid stiff base of the head allows it to withstand the entirety of the season. We recommend a mid-pocket to optimize ball control when running through the lines game after game. For our defenders, you have to get your hands on the Delta! These are nearly impossible to keep on the shelf with the performance this has to offer. The high pinch allows for a high pocket to grab those loose balls and get them up the floor to get the offense going! Offered in three colors, make sure you take advantage of the custom features on this gem of a head! For FOGO’s, you know what we’re going to say…the Mark 2F! The best of the best for 5+ years now. No one does it better than String King when it comes to the X. If you get a chance to buy one, do it while you can….these don’t stay in stock for too long! And for our goalies, the one and only, Eclipse 3. Every Eclipse seems to somehow be better than the previous, even when everyone thinks it’s been maxed out. Shoutout to STX for making such a dominant product family that has remained king for 10+ years now!

Shafts

Each wizard needs a wand, and every wand is different! Be strategic when asking about the best shafts per position. For attackmen, you cannot go wrong with the Fiber X. The lightweight carbon construction allows for optimal feel when carrying the ball. The Carbon make up offers flex points when shooting, allowing for more power and speed behind each shot. Look no further than the Fiber X when choosing your setup this year. For midfielders, we recommend the Warrior Evo V. The first of it’s kind, offering both metal and carbon components! Designed to do it all, for the do it all players. Optimizing the strength to weight ratio, this shaft is like a Swiss army knife. Offering the brute of metal handles while playing defense and allowing for flex points when stepping down for a shot. You cannot ask for more as a midfielder! For our poles, get your hands on an ECD Carbon Pro 3. The hottest shaft in the game for years now! The strength of this shaft is unmatched to anything we have seen in a Carbon handle. Designed for both LSM’s and close guys, this shaft will guarantee you to dominate the D-end of the field. FOGO’s, we recommend Maverik Calibers! One of the strongest shafts on the market, this shaft was made to withstand the constant battles at the faceoff dot. The rigid make up will give you an advantage when battling out those 50/50 battles!

Shoulders

There is only one answer to this question, the Shadow Pro 2! Only available at LU, this pad is the first of it’s kind. Known as the “hybrid” this pad fit’s all positions! Want the slimmest pad? We got you, use the removable shoulder straps and turn it into a liner. Think your getting beat up on the field? Put the shoulder straps back on to make it a full size shoulder pad. Most players end up cutting the top pads off, which cannot be put back on if need be down the road. With the Shadow Pro 2, you can adjust as many times as you need throughout the season. Truly, the best pad for all players!

Arms

Our favorite family just so happens to have all positions covered. The Stallion 1k proves to be the stand-alone king in the world of arm protection! The predecessor of the beloved Stallion 900’s, these bad boys will optimize protection and comfort across the board. Attackmen, go get yourself a pair of guards. Offering full arm protection, you will be able to withstand the slashes and scars defenseman give you day in and day out. Midfielders, you will need a pair of arm pads. Offering protection on the offensive side while also leveraging mobility and lightweight while covering the defensive end. Now the most unique, the elbow caps! Ideal for poles and FOGO’s, these caps are a thing of beauty. Offering the protection most prefer at those positions, these have proven to be a top seller for us for these positions!

Gloves

These don’t really differ by position, so we’ll keep it short and sweet. The top 3 gloves are by far the STX RZR 2’s, Warrior Evo’s, and Maverik Shifts. All 3 being similar yet unique at the same time. The molded foam back has shown to be the new era of Lacrosse. With each manufacturer offering their own iteration, these gloves are without a doubt, the best the game has to offer today!
