We are about 5 days out from the selection show with conference championships yet to be decided. Before all the madness of May begins, we are here today to share with you some of LU’s hottest (or not so hot) takes before the tournament begins!
Fairfield Doesn’t Get In
The Stags started off red hot this year, going 9-0. They were the last undefeated team in the country before a one goal loss to Stony Brook. They lost their second game last weekend to a tough Towson team. The CAA tournament begins this Thursday, with the Stags slated at the #2 spot. Facing off against Drexel, this could be a barn burner. The regular season matchup was a one goal win for the Stags. Drexel seems to have found their groove at the right time of the year. If the Stags don’t win the CAA, we don’t see them getting an at large bid. Despite the Cinderella start, they will need to win out right for the chance to play into May.
Rutgers Goes on a Run
It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for the Scarlet Knights this year. Starting off 2-0, the Knights went on to lose 5 of their next 7. Conference play has been shaky as well, but we have high hopes for this group this year. With notable wins over two hot teams in Maryland and Michigan, we think the Jersey Boys can make a run these next few weeks. First, a cage match with red hot Ohio State in the Big 10 semis. These two match up well with each other personnel wise. Looking to avenge a 2 goal loss, we think Rutgers is going to surprise a lot of people and take a chance at the dance in May!
Only 3 ACC Team’s Squeak In
The past decade has highlighted the ACC as the Meca of NCAA Lacrosse conferences. Collecting the most NCAA Championships in history, the ACC has earned it’s high praise. However, this year we have seen a lot of shakeup from these teams. UNC appeared as a juggernaut, something fans have been waiting to see since their 2016 Championship win. Besides their Final 4 appearance in 2021, the Heels have had some disappointing years. Not this year, they are flying high and collecting important wins at the best time of the year. The back to back champs have not been as dominant, but Notre Dame can never be counted out when it comes to May. The Irish have been flying high into April, with high hopes at being crowned a dynasty with a 3-peat this year. Now that leaves one final spot for us. Will Duke or Cuse prevail? Both schools have a few head scratching losses, and only 2 conference wins to date. Duke did beat the Orange head to head, so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top!
As a lacrosse fan, we are about to enter the best time of the year! With the NCAA tournament about to start-we have so much to look forward to. Year after year, we always find upsets and teams getting passed upon by the committee. Who knows what this year has in store.
