NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship Recap: UNC, Your New Champs!

This past Sunday was the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship hosted at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The thrilling matchup was between the University of North Carolina and Northwestern University. Let’s get into it.

 

 UNC finishes their season undefeated as well as champions of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse season. The Tar Heels were the only team in the country to withhold a perfect record this season as they took it to the end defeating Northwestern 12-8 in the final championship game. 

 

The University of North Carolina wins their fourth NCAA Championship title with the help of the Redshirt Freshman, Chloe Humphrey, who was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Chloe scored four goals, which propelled UNC forward, as well as Eliza Osburn and Olivia Vergano who scored two goals each. Ashley Humphrey recorded four assists that game which resulted in her breaking the NCAA single-season record with 90 assists. Betty Nelson played a huge role on the defensive side having 8 saves to keep the Tar Heels in the lead.

 

After the first half, UNC led a low scoring 5-2 game with Northwestern scoring the first goal of the second half. Pushing forward, the Tar Heels scored 5 goals keeping the Wildcats from scoring just one goal for nearly over 19 minutes for a 10-4 lead with just 7:45 minutes of the game left. Northwestern could not score more than 4 goals for the remainder of the game as UNC pulled away with a 12-8 victory.
