What Kind of Pocket Do You Need This Spring?

Year after year, we see innovation and new ideas brought to the table by the lacrosse manufacturers around the world. New heads and pockets are constantly being developed, allowing for the ultimate customization factor when it comes to your stick. Each player has different preferences, today we are going to take a deep dive into the logistics behind each pocket style and which suits your game best!

Low Pocket’s

An attackman’s dream! With a low pocket, you will find an advantage in handling and carrying the ball. The ball will sit close to the throat, optimizing feel and control of the ball. Whether you are pushing transition or carrying through X, a low pocket will help elevate your game. If you are a pass first kind of player, you will want to have a low pocket as well. The way the ball sits will allow for an easy exit when you make the inside looks, helping your team climb the score sheet! An ideal set up for this pocket would be on a Maverik Optik Force. The lower pinch of the head allows for a clean low pocket once it has been strung up.

Mid Pocket’s

We would call this one the universal pocket. An easy transition to use at any position of the field. We have found most players will start off with a mid-pocket and then decide if they want to switch or stay as they grow further into their career. A mid pocket allows you to have a good feel on the ball while still allowing an easy exit out of your stick. A lot of heads are constructed with a pinch mid-way up the head, which allows for a precise mid pocket to be strung up. One of our favorite heads to string with a mid pocket is a Nike L3. The mid flare of the head and sidewall hole placement allows for a great mid pocket that will stay consistent through the entirety of the season!

High Pocket’s

One of our favorite pocket’s we get to string up for all the long poles out there! High pockets allow for easier GB pickups, making transition that much easier! Whether you are cleaning up a scrum in front of the crease or getting the loose groundball’s from the wing, a high pocket is a long poles dream. When it comes to high pockets, look no further than an ECD Delta. The high flare/pinch allows the pocket to sit right near the scoop and optimize getting every ground ball!
