If you know us at Lacrosse Unlimited, you know we like to keep it Always Custom. It’s literally our motto, since 1990. We will always push players to customize their gear as much as possible. But it’s for more than just the look, particularly when it comes to your head. We know you all have searched pages and pages of lacrosse equipment online or walked through aisles and rows of equipment in store, and might have struggled to decide what works best for you.  There’s definitely an advantage to getting a custom strung head rather than a pre-built one, especially for developing players as they are starting to advance their career.

Consistent Play

As you start to play, you’ll figure out what stringing style and head type works best for you. If you’re a dodger you might like a more narrow head shape with a lower pocket. If you’re a shooter you might want something a little wider with a high pocket. You’ll want to find what combination works best for you and try to replicate that build each time you need a new head. There’s soft mesh, hard mesh, narrow heads, wide heads, different pocket styles, shooting string styles, side wall construction, and more that can all be customized, and each will have a different effect on your game. Customizing your head can help you assure your player that they are stepping onto the field with a tool that works best for them.

Quality Products

There are plenty of pre-built off-the-wall products that are good quality and will serve you just fine on the field, but a lot of the time they are built to be cost-efficient for newer players and may not be the best quality on the market that you’re looking for. When you customize your head, you can pick and choose the products you want and combine them. This allows you to create a durable head that will last through the season and even longer if you need. Most top of the line products are not available in a pre-built option, so it is best to get comfortable building a custom set up earlier in your career in preparation for the more advanced stages of your lax career.

Stand Out on the Field

Here’s where the look comes into play. If you want to make a statement to coaches as you get late in your career and look to college opportunities, you’ll want to stand out. Customization alongside your play style can help you grab eyes and attention while you plant the ball in the back of the net, or get that yard sale check that turns heads. We’ve got custom helmets, custom gloves, custom dyes for your head and custom apparel to show off your style and stand apart from the competition. Every edge you can get on the next guy up is worth taking.

At the end of the day, no one knows what is best for you other than you. But before you get to that point, our experts can help you develop your game and make recommendations. Visit your local LU or reach out online to figure out where to get started today!
